Sensory Awareness & Breathing Meditation: Alleviate Anxiety
Do you ever feel anxious or overwhelmed? Perhaps you experience thought after thought or when you get home from work, your body and brain are buzzing from over stimulation.
If you experience any of this, know that you are not alone. Anxiety and stress are inevitably a part of life as external stressors are always fluctuating. The problem arises when anxiety and overwhelm become a daily occurrence or transition into a new baseline state for the body. In moments of stress, the sympathetic nervous system activates a state called ‘fight or flight’ which means that the nervous system is on high alert for danger and any bodily processes that aren’t considered ‘necessary for survival’ are put on hold. This becomes unhealthy, draining and exhausting for our body, mind and soul.
This meditation is intended to help re-activate your parasympathetic nervous system through a variety of gentle and calming sensory-based techniques. Together, we work with the breath and scan the body using each one of our senses. This creates a relaxing effect that brings you peacefully into the present moment.
Feeling calm and safe within our bodies is where we should be living the majority of the time and this meditation is intended to help get you there!
